Only with children would I have trouble pulling the trigger. Verse 1 I walk the streets of Japan til I get lost Cause it doesnt remind me of anything. everyday there's an evil man who is victimizing innocent people, and he needs killing in the worst way, but that's not socially acceptable so, it gets left to men like me, who can kill with very little remorse or regret afterwards. There are many, MANY good reasons to kill other men. He thought there was no good reason to kill another man, but that's obviously just naive to a ridiculous degree. They were all very anti war, in pretty much every respect. Still I get choked up when his F15 Eagle is shot down by a SAM. He seems to be wearing a US army tunic and has a colonels eagle over his ribbons on his lapel, but that's all wrong too. And I saw the uniform hes wearing, it's not a real air force uni. Seen it a thousand times but still I paused and zoomed in on dad's photo. ![]() Cornell issued a statement in February 2007 that he was permanently leaving the band "due to irresolvable personality conflicts as well as musical differences." As the other three members were busy with the Rage Against the Machine reunion, and Morello and Cornell had each released solo albums in 2007, Audioslave was officially disbanded. It consisted of Soundgarden frontman and rhythm guitarist Chris Cornell and the former instrumentalists of Rage Against the Machine: Tom Morello (lead guitar), Tim Commerford (bass and backing vocals) and Brad Wilk (drums).Īudioslave released three successful albums, received three Grammy nominations, sold more than eight million records worldwide, and became the first American rock band to perform an open-air concert in Cuba. Lyrics © Wixen Music Publishing, Sony/ATV Music Publishing LLC I like playing in the sand what's mine is ours In your house I long to be Room by room, patiently, I'll wait for you there, like a stone. The sky was bruised, the wine was bled, and there you led me on. I like throwing my voice and breaking guitars Like a pagan to anyone who will take me to heaven To a place I recall, I was there so long ago. I like hammering nails and speaking in tongues I don't want to learn what I'll need to forget The things I've held sacred that I've dropped *I’ve boxed and enjoyed it, but have concerns about it as a sport. The things that I've loved the things that I've lost Similarly, instead of dealing with the trauma of losing his father, the son in the video is seeking out distractions - and this case those distractions are mostly violent. One possible reading of the song’s lyrics is the singer is trying very hard to remain in denial about something that is troubling him. I think it works well with the lyrics too. I will provide links to all of the singers singing, for those of you who havent heard a certain singer. ![]() ![]() However, please be polite and realize that its just my opinion. ![]() The son seems to feel better after winning the fight, his mother feels proud, and his trainers are glad he's learning and enjoying the sport, but it's a great microcosm of "everyone in this situation is just doing the best they can but this is how we end up unintentionally normalizing violence." Anyway, please comment because Ive worked really hard one this and will be mad as hell if I dont get a good amount of comments after all this time I spent on this article. The son is too young to know any better but it seems society (including his mother, but also everyone training him and cheering him on) is more than happy to repeat the toxic cycle of violence that got his father killed. The family has lost their husband and father to war, and the very-young son finds solace in… playing with toys that look like weapons of war, running away and breaking things, and getting involved in a violent competition*. But ignoring the artists' intentions it's a disturbing story of a cycle of toxic masculinity. They may have meant for the boxing match to be liberating, or may have meant to make it disturbing. I don’t know what Audioslave and the video's director intended.
